Playing Maestro Morricone’s music is always a very complex operation, one could say that it is like trying to reproduce Leonardo da Vinci’s Gioconda or Michelangelo’s Pietà.
The Maestro’s music is a world heritage and each of us is linked for one reason or another to the soundtracks of the 600 and more films that the Maestro has set to music, not counting the Academic production and the various collaborations he has had.
Therefore, approaching his work puts any artist in awe; starting from this, the album Portrait of Ennio is a sort of perspective vision revisited according to my sensitivity and that of the musicians who have played with me towards Ennio’s musical corpus. A vision linked to the jazz side of the Maestro, who, as per his statements, has always considered a music distant from his soul; but that in his production is present with valuable material, just remember the films of the early ’80s permeated by jazz-style soundtracks.
Our contribution was to enhance this vision of his work by developing it with our language with well-finished arrangements and sounds that go beyond commercial cataloguing.
wants to be the portrait that encompasses the many facets of a complex and ingenious composer such as Ennio Morricone.
